The bodies of 20-year-old Lyodisa “Loyda” Waldron and her fiancé, 33-year-old Andri Francis, a Special Constable, who went missing on Sunday while swimming at Unity Beach, were recovered on Tuesday. Based on reports received, the bodies were recovered at about 11:00h, some distance from where they went missing, during a recovery mission involving ranks from the Mahaica Police Station, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Coast Guard, and private entities.

Following the discovery, the bodies were brought to shore and taken to the Memorial Garden Mortuary, awaiting autopsy. According to information received, the bodies were already in an advanced state of decomposition.
It was reported that at about 14:00h on Sunday, Waldron and Francis, both from Victoria Village, East Coast Demerara (ECD), were on a family outing at Unity Beach. Waldron reportedly went into the water but shortly after began drifting deeper into the Atlantic Ocean and called out for assistance.
Hearing her screams, the father of two, who was close by, rushed to her assistance, but instead, both of them were pulled under due to the strong current and disappeared. A search party was immediately established, but despite hours of scouring the area, they were not found.
Up to late Monday, a joint search and rescue operation was conducted for the missing couple, but that too came up empty-handed.
At the scene on Tuesday, family members and friends flocked to Unity Beach to catch a glimpse of the bodies when they were brought to shore.
