Body found at Mahaica identified as mentally-ill man

The nude body that was found on Thursday last along the De Hoop Public Road in Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD) was identified as that of 43-year-old Neville Parbhu, also called “Plunga” of Lusignan, ECD.
The body was identified by his cousin, on December 27, who stated that the now dead man was of unsound mind and would walk “all over the place”.
He stated that earlier in the month, Parbhu left home and did not return, but he did not make a Police report since it was normal for the now-deceased man to go missing for weeks after which he would return.
The cousin stated that on December 26, he was at home with some friends imbibing when he was told that a dead man’s photograph was on social media to assist in the identification of his body.
As such, he and other family members went to the Mahaicony Police Station on December 27, and were taken to the mortuary where they positively identified the deceased as their cousin. A post-mortem is expected to be performed shortly.
On Thursday last, the Police had stated that acting on information received, a party of ranks went to the De Hoop Public Road and observed an unidentified male lying naked on the side of the road.
Upon inspection of the body, a suspected wound was seen on his forehead, and there were bruises about his body. In addition, his right eye appeared to have been pushed out of its socket, and brain matter was seen on the said road shoulder.
The body was taken to Anthony’s Funeral Home for identification and post-mortem.
