Body of missing security officer pulled from Demerara River
One day after a security officer fell into the Demerara River, his body was discovered floating in the vicinity of Mc Doom, Greater Georgetown, on Monday.
The body has since been identified as that of Calvin Sancho, who was attached to the GEB Security Company.
Specific details regarding the incident remain scarce, but reliable sources indicate that Sancho was part of a team that was going onboard a ship that was anchored in the Demerara River.
However, upon reaching the vessel, Sancho reportedly attempted to secure the boat, but in the process, he fell overboard and disappeared.
Following the incident, the authorities, including the Police and Coast Guard, launched an intensive search operation but came up empty-handed.
Notably, when his body was found on Monday, he was wearing a GEB Security vest.
This unfortunate occurrence comes only three months after another incident involving a security guard from the same security firm. Zephyr Stanislaus, a father of one from Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, slipped into the Demerara River and went missing.
The incident took place while he was guarding a vessel stationed at Guyana Rubis Incorporated in Providence, East Bank Demerara.
According to reports, Stanislaus was seen descending a ladder to board a marine boat when he accidentally slipped and fell into the Demerara River. He submerged and did not resurface.
The following day, his body was found floating in the Demerara River near the Pritipaul Wharf in Peters Hall, East Bank Demerara.
Reports indicate that his uniform was still intact, but he was in a state of decomposition at the time of discovery.
