Body of security officer pulled from Demerara River

The body of 58-year-old Mohamed Rasheed of Number 11 Village, Berbice, who went missing while taking a bath in the Demerara River, was recovered on Thursday afternoon in the vicinity of Omai Wharf.
The man went missing about 17:45h on Wednesday. Based on reports received, the now dead man was guarding heavy-duty equipment in the area when he decided to take a bath in the Demerara River at Wismar.
However, it was initially stated that he encountered difficulties owing to the strong current of the tide. Other employees reportedly saw this and tried to render assistance with the aid of life jackets, but it was too late.
Upon the recovery of the body, the Police have confirmed that there were no marks of violence present. The body is presently at the Wismar Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem.
