Britton, Franklin overcome Duffs’ challenge

The duo of National players  Shemar Birtton and Christopher Franklin  held some spirited competition by  the father-son combination of Donal Duff and Jamal Duff at Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) Doubles, Novices and Fundamental Challenge competition over the weekend at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

Competing in the senior doubles, Britton and Franklin lost the first set 6-11 but rebounded to win the other ties 11-8,11-7 and 11-7.
The combination of Terrance Lowe and Joel Allyene had to settle for third ahead of Nigel Bryan and Elishaba Johnson.
In the pre-cadet which had eleven enrties, Kaysan Ninvalle and Isaiah Layne got the better of  Jonathan Van-lange and Dahanesh Persaud 11-7,11-9 and 11-6  while   Christopher Barrow and Curtis McRae placed third;  Kristan Sahadeo and Colin Wong got third.
For the Novices, which had 24 entries, Karl Nedd won the male final against  DeAndre  Crandon 11-4,11-2 and 13-11 while set wins of 11-4-11-9 and 11-9 helped Tirishatha Semple defeat Nkechi McRae.
Meanwhile in the Pre-cadet Fundamental challenge,  Vanlange defeated Layne in a three minute rally scoring 111 points while in the juniors Johnson scored 142 points to defeat Pricilla Greaves.
The tournament was geared to kick start the GTTA activities with a more softer competition as a lead to the more intense  and bigger competitions.
It emphasised on orienting players to the critical importance of the fundamental aspects of the game  in a competitive and fun manner
