Speaking on behalf Bruster’s Ice Cream at a simple ceremony was proprietor Paton George, who said, “We spoke, about a year ago, to expand the game of golf to the broader communities and nationwide. The second part of the tournament is the fun day, which will bring kids into the game. This is sort of an inaugural event for anyone in Guyana to get involved. We’ve reduced the cost to zero for kids to come and practice, so any kid who wants to practice (can) come and practice; just call the golf course ahead and come with your parent, and we will reserve someone who will give them some tutoring.
“So, from Saturday going forward, we hope to see more interest from the kids going forward between the ages of 6 and 15. They can come out to the course and practice free of cost.”

George also made a timely donation to Colaaco School, some of the students of which will be participating in the fun day. He noted that he is expecting kids from Linden and Berbice to take part in the fun day. He explained that it’s more than just golf, as it’s one of the only sports where you police yourself, hence one of the first things that will be taught to the children will be integrity.
The Bruster’s proprietor spoke on the importance of integrity, as it is something you can spend a lifetime building, and yet lose same in a day. He stated that while it is a day for the children, it will focus more on ethics, being honest to yourself, and many other things.
The fun day will be open to children 15 years and under, and will include a drive, chip and putt challenge. The fun day will feature free golf prizes, free ice cream and snacks, and free practice and coaching all day.
The format of the golf tournament will be 18 holes Medal play shotgun start, playing with full handicap. Those interested can call 220-5660. Registration closes at 17:00 hrs on Friday, April 15. The prizes up for grabs will be Best Gross overall, Longest Drive #12, Nearest to the flag #4, Best net front 9, Best net back 9, Best net overall – First (champion Player of the day), Second-runner up and Third-runner up.
Participants must give themselves adequate time to report to the manager, collect their score cards, and proceed to their allotted tee boxes for a 9am start, the blast of the horn is the signal for all players to start teeing off.
