Bullet still lodged in shot teen waitress’ throat

The 16-year-old waitress who was shot during a failed robbery at a Chinese Restaurant last month is still hospitalised and awaiting surgery to have the bullet lodged in her throat removed.

Onika Luke of Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara (ECD), remains in critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

According to information received, the teenager has refused to have tubes placed through her nose to feed her since she indicated that this would be too painful for her to endure as she already is in a lot of pain.

Meanwhile, her assailant is still on the run. However, Guyana Times understands that the injured teen was able to write a statements from her hospital bed, detailing the incident on the night she was shot.

The teen worked part-time at the Chinese Restaurant.

Reports are that the lone gunman walked into the restaurant posing as a customer. This newspaper was told that he ordered a half serving of vegetable fried rice and paid Luke for the meal. However, when she collected the money from the man, he snatched her by the shirt, whipped out a gun and demanded cash.

After the waitress did not comply with his demand, the lone gunman shot her. Police are still investigating.
