Consultants from the Germany Company BSW Regapaul recently scouted the Burnham Park, New Amsterdam area as a possible site for a new Synthetic Track.
The team of consultants from the German-based company who was responsible for the construction of the Lenora Synthetic Track engaged stakeholders and provided a survey regarding the idea of turning the park into a Synthetic.
Assistant Director of Sports, Melissa Dow Richardson stated that the project, is set to commence in January 2018 and added that the main reason for the site visit is to determine concerns such as drainage of the venue, waterlogging and the siting of various amenities like concession stands.
Richardson hinted at a full-sized football field will be constructed on the inside of the track while some $160 Million has been set aside for the construction of the facility and apart with areas such as soil testing and more aspects of surveying to be carried out with Tenders being made public for contractors to commence work.
The facility is set to feature a 400M Synthetic track with all the necessary amenities and space to facilitate; International Track and Field events including, Shot Put, Javelin, Discus and Hammer, Long, Triple and High Jump areas.
Consultant Patrick Heinen said, when completed, the track will be World Class and International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF) certified. Meanwhile, Brian Ibrahim on of the projects engineers stated that the site at New Amsterdam should not create a challenge since a playfield already exists. The other issues of waterlogging among others will also be addressed.
