Businessman’s $5M vehicle disappears while he was collecting Chinese food

– confesses to staging incident to claim insurance

A businessman is now looking for his white SUV Volkswagen motor van, PYY 7703, after it disappeared while he was collecting food at a Chinese restaurant in Alexander Street, Kitty, Georgetown on Wednesday evening.
Based on reports received, on Wednesday at about 21:00h, the 27-year-old businessman parked his motor van in front of Seepaul’s Sports Bar with the key in the ignition and the engine running, and went into a Chinese restaurant to collect food.
However, upon his return to where he had left his vehicle, he discovered it missing. The vehicle reportedly had $500,000 in cash, several land transports, several copies of agreements of sale for land, and all the relevant documents pertaining to the said vehicle, including registration, fitness, certificate of insurance and revenue licence.
Checks were made in the area for the said vehicle, but it was not found. The Police were contacted, and an investigation has been launched.
Meanwhile, the 27-year-old businessman, during interrogation by CID officers, confessed that he and a friend staged the incident to claim insurance.
He reportedly told ranks that he staged the incident because he was frustrated after he was involved in an accident with the vehicle and the insurance company refused to pay him for the damages. He disclosed that the plan was to destroy the vehicle to get the insurance benefit.
The vehicle was recovered at Ogle, East Coast Demerara.
