Businesswoman shot in face during foiled robbery

Bandits opened fire on a Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD) businesswoman on Wednesday evening during a foiled robbery.
Reports are that 56-year-old Gomattie Ramrattan was shot to the face by two masked gunmen. This newspaper was told that the gunmen attempted to force their way into the woman’s Seventh Street, Diamond, EBD home, but their efforts were thwarted after she managed to close a grill door leading to the premises.

Guyana Times was told that before falling unconscious at the hospital, Ramrattan disclosed to her sister that she was about to close her back door when the men jumped the fence. She related that she managed to close the grill door and one of the men shot her after realising that they could not enter the house.
The mother of two, who owns a shop in the area, was rushed to Diamond Diagnostic Centre and later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital. Police have since launched an investigation.
