Buxton man charged for possession of illegal gun, ammo

Nicholas Beveny of Sideline Dam, Buxton, East Coast Demerara (ECD) has been remanded to prison for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

When the 28-year-old appeared on Wednesday before Vigilance Magistrate Fabayo Azore, who read him the charge, he pleaded not guilty to the offences.
The Police have reported that on January 10, 2022, at Phase 1, Good Hope ECD, ranks of the Vigilance Police Station were on motorcycle patrol when they observed an identifiable male acting in a suspicious manner. He was reportedly confronted, and a search conducted on his person unearthed one .38 special revolver along with two matching rounds of ammunition in his pants waist.
He was arrested and subsequently charged with the offence of possession of firearm and ammunition without licence, contrary to Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05, Committed on Public Justice.
Beveny will make his next court appearance on February, 22, 2022.
