Buxton man gets bail on manslaughter, firearm & ammo possession charges 

Forty-five-year-old Eulex Andre Jeffery, also called “Ratty”, a gold miner from Company Road, Buxton, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was on Thursday charged and granted bail for manslaughter and firearm and ammunition possession charges.
Jeffery was accused of shooting Moses Chappelle, also called “Bizo”, to death while imbibing at Blackwater Landing, Cuyuni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) two Thursdays ago.

However, Jeffery appeared before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court, where the charges were read to him. He was not required to plead to the manslaughter charge but was granted bail in the amount of $600,000.
With respect to the firearm and ammunition charges, he pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of $300,000. He is expected to make his next court appearance on June 8, 2026.

It was reported that on the day in question, Chappelle returned to Blackwater Landing with Jeffery after visiting a mining operation in the backdam.
They later visited a shop in the area where they started to imbibe, but soon after, a loud explosion was heard. Upon checking, the now-deceased man was found lying on the ground covered in blood.
He was transported to the Puruni Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead. Upon inspection, a gunshot wound was observed on his left lower back area. After committing the act, Jeffery reportedly fled the scene but was later apprehended.

During investigations, police travelled to Blackwater Landing, Cuyuni River, where an AM-15 rifle and a .32 pistol, along with two magazines containing 42 live rounds, were found. 223 rounds, one magazine containing four live ones. 32 rounds, one 9mm magazine, and 70 live rounds. 223 rounds and 48 live 9mm rounds of ammunition were discovered.
