Buxton to challenge Melanie B’s title retention endeavors
Defending champion Melanie B will commence the defence of their title with a tricky engagement against Buxton B as action in the East Coast Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Competition kicks off tomorrow night, at the Haslington Tarmac.
They play in the penultimate game of eight scheduled matches and the organisers are confident that the venue will be filled with fans in support of their respective teams, all based along the villages on the East Coast Demerara.
In the opening fixture, former champion Plaisance A tackles Belfield Warriors and this encounter is anticipated to provide the perfect start for the night’s proceedings.
Host Haslington Hypers takes on visitors Mahaica Determinators to bring the curtains down on opening night action and they will be hoping to turn in a solid performance in front of the expected large home crowd.
The first night only eight teams will progress to the next round set for Saturday, at the same venue when the round robin stage begins, before the final, semi-final and Plate final bring the 3-day competition to a close on Easter Monday.
Over $700,000 in prize monies and trophies will be up for grabs over three days, while the Plate final carries a first prize of $50,000.
The winning team in the competition will receive $400,000, while second, third and fourth place finishers take home $150,000, $100,000 and $75,000 respectively.
