Buxton United, Pele FC secure vital wins

GFF/Stag Elite League Finale…

Buxton United and Pele FC both secured vital wins in the Guyana Football’s (GFF) Stag Elite League Finale on Sunday at the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) ground.
In the opening match, a first half double by Denvor Dennis stormed his side to victory against a 10-man Georgetown Football Club (GFC).
Buxton created the earlier chances as Esan Hammer made the first attempt that went inches outside the far post and his second chance couple minutes later hit the cross bar.
Soon after Dennis scored the first goal in the 30th, but then a disagreement on the field saw GFC’s Linden Picket being issued a red card for violent conduct.

One minute after the card was issued Dennis was on the pounce again when chipped the ball over the keeper from just outside the 18 yards box in the 40th.
Buxton’s Kwadjo Garnett then had a chance, but was cleared off the line by the tracking centre-back which ended a dominant half by Buxton.
The second half was much of the same as Buxton created more opportunities as Garnett looked to get his first goal of the night when Hammer played a ‘through-ball’ to the forward, but his shot was denied by an excellent save by the keeper.
The matched motored along, but the Bourda side could not find a way to penetrate the Buxton backline as they endured their 10th loss from 11 matches.
In the other match, Pele defeated GDF 3-1, thanks to goals from Gregory Richardson in the 20th and 40th minutes, and then Omalo Williams scored in the 58th. GDF’s lone goal scorer was Selwyn Issacs in the 79th minute.
The League will continue today at the same venue where Fruta Conquerors play Monedderlust from 18:30h, followed by Slingerz FC clashing with Alpha United from 20:30h.
