Demerara crush Essequibo by 124 runs

Demerara romped to a 124-run victory over Essequibo on Monday in the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/Hand-In-Hand 50-over Inter-county, Under-19 tournament played at the Wales Community Centre ground.

In the rain-affected game, Ronaldo Ali-Mohammed’s unbeaten 53 (2x4s; 2x6s) lifted Demerara to 162-6 at the end of 38 overs with Miguel Jones taking 3-21.
With the Duckworth/Lewis effect coming into effect due to the loss of overs because of rain, Essequibo were given 181 runs to win for their new allotment of 38 overs.
Ali-Mohammed returned with the ball to take 3-7 and help to blow away Essequibo for 56 in 28.4 overs. Richie Looknauth (1-7), captain Travis Persaud (1-20) and Keshram Shabodan, with 4-9 from just five overs, supported Ali-Mohammed.
The second round will be on Wednesday with Berbice playing Demerara at Wales and the Select Under-17s playing Essequibo at Everest.
