Moriah inspires ECCCC to double victory

Enmore Community Centre Cricket Club (ECCCC) defeated Enterprise A on Sunday by nine runs in the semi-final of the East Coast Cricket Committee/SPR Enterprise sponsored 40-over cricket competition at Enmore.

ECCCC, asked to take first use of a wicket with plenty preparation moisture, found batting difficult against Enterprise A spinners. ECCCC were bowled out in the penultimate over for 156 with Nandram Gobin scoring 55 (8x4s, 1×6) and Gavin Moriah 18. Rohan Mangal took 5-27 from his eight overs for Enterprise A.
In reply, Enterprise A were on top for the most part of their innings, despite two early wickets by Gavin Moriah. Two crucial wickets by off-spinner Chandraban Seemangal in the 30th over and Moriah in the 37th over brought ECCCC back into the game.
Enterprise A’s last pair eventually succumbed under pressure, resulting in them being dismissed for 147 in the 39th over. B.Samaroo and R.Kisseur scored 33 and 31 runs respectively. Moriah was the pick of the bowlers with 4-22 from eight overs, while Seemangal supported with 2-34 from seven overs.
ECCCC will now meet Fairfield SC in the final next Sunday. Fairfield defeated Strathavon SC in the other semi-final.
Meanwhile, ECCCC defeated Good Hope by 108 runs in their second round match of the East Coast Cricket Committee/Fairfield SC sponsored 20-overs cricket competition at Enmore last weekend.
Led by 47 and 33 from Dillon Ross and Chris Surat respectively, ECCCC amassed 155-6 wickets in 20 overs after taking first strike.
In reply, Good Hope were bowled out for 48 in the 15th over. Left-arm seamer Moriah continued his good form with 4-17 from four overs, while Yuvraj Dyal claimed 3-7 from three overs.
The competition will continue after the ECCC/SPR Enterprise 40-overs final.
