Two men, a 41-year-old Beterverwagting (BV), East Coast Demerara (ECD) resident and a 25-year-old resident of Ocean Gardens, Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara (WCD), are currently in Police custody after a number of illegal plants and cannabis were found in their homes on separate occasions.
Police said the first arrest was made on Monday at around 15:00h after officers swooped down to a Quamina Road, Beterverwagting, ECD home.
There, Policemen carried out a cordon and search exercise on the home of the 41-year-old male, who is unemployed. The ranks found two plant pots containing four green plants which had leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The tallest plant measured at about three feet three inches in height.
The man allegedly admitted ownership, claiming it was for his personal use. He was arrested and placed into custody and the plants were lodged.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, a 25-year-old fisherman was taken into Police custody after he was found with a bulky black plastic bag that contained a number of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
Five pairs of boots, a green water pump, a blue angle grinder, and a black electric drill were also found in his possession.
It was reported that a party of policemen went to the suspect’s home and in his presence conducted a search for drugs, guns, ammunition, and stolen articles.
He was questioned about the articles found but could not give a reasonable explanation on how he acquired them.
The suspect was arrested and an investigation was launched into the discovery. (G9)
