BV Secondary advances to second round

The Beterverwagtin (BV) Secondary School was declared winners in their match against Lancaster Secondary due to inclement weather as Regional Democratic Council (RDC)/DEVCON/Lloyd Britton/Regional Executive Officer (REO) Inter Secondary School Cricket Competition got underway on Monday, at the Everest Cricket Club.
Due to torrential May/June rain that has affected other sporting activities over the weekend, the match- contested for 30 overs per side was limited to a mere 30 overs in total of day’s play. The final outcome of the match was decided by a coin toss; BV Secondary, winning the toss advanced to the next round after they were 74-8 from their allotted 10 overs, replying to Lancaster’s 140-5 declared, off 20 overs.
Lancaster Secondary batting first saw its captain and opener Emmanuel Fedee scoring 52 (3×4, 2×6) while middle order batsman Jemari Fredricks supported with a cameo 34 ball 24 (3×4). Clayton Hall and Yogesh Debidin took 3-25 and 2-24 respectively has the BV bowlers offered a whopping 32 extras to the batting side, helping Lancaster to 140-5 has they declared in 20 overs.
With just 10 overs left in the day’s play, BV could have only muster 74-8, with no batsman other than Yogesh Debidin and Chidanand Persaud offering a start at the crease with 19 and 25 runs. Bowling for Lancaster, Puran Mangal claimed match figures 4-32.
With BV going through to the next round of the competition by winning the coin toss, Lancaster has been automatically knocked out.
The competition, which will see 16 teams competing runs from May 14th with the finals slated for May 24th. It was disclosed that the Guyana Cricket Board has given their support to the staging of the competition.
