Wiltshire, Cadogan dominate as Jnr Squash Championships ends

Squash sensation Shomari Wiltshire completed a dominant and clean sweep through the under 15, under 17and under 19 categories, as The Guyana Squash Association (GSA) Woodpecker Products Junior Nationals Squash Championships had its conclusion played out on Sunday, at the Georgetown Club.
In the presence of a large and enthusiastic audience, Wiltshire- who was deemed the Most Outstanding Boy, showed immense form and skill has he defeated the ambitious Daniel Islam in an intense bout that saw Wiltshire winning his sets (11-5, 11-9, 11-5.)

Similar to Wiltshire’s impressive feat, Abosaide Cadogan defeated Kirsten Gomes in a highly competitive under 15 girl’s bout that went (11-5, 8-11, 11-3, 11-5) in Cadogan’s favor. Cadogon also secured her three category domination as she scoped the under 15, under 17 and under 19, then topped this off by taking home Most Outstanding Girl.
Also in a hard fought battle, Anthony Islam defeated Samuel Ince-Carvalhal in their first game (19-17), and (12-9) in second. He then continued his dominant run with (11-5) in their third meeting.
In the other categories, the boys under 11’s saw Louis DaSilva beating Chad DeAbreu in straight sets (11-2, 11-0, 11-1) and winning the under 11 crown, and in the under 13’s, dominant Michael Alphonso completed his clean sweep by beating Demetrius DeAbreu 3-0.
Meanwhile, the Fernandes sisters- Christina and Paige, won their respective under 11 and under 13 categories against Malia Maikoo and Beau Fernandes.
Most improved boy was taken away by Nicholas Verwey and Most Improved Girl Madison Fernandes and, trophies were handed out by the mothers of the winners in celebration of Mother’s Day. Sponsors of the Junior National Championships Woodpecker Products, who have annually supported the Junior Championships and Banks DIH for its contribution of PowerAde drinks for the event.
