– Agatash claim men’s trophy

F irst timers Bydarabo Uprising, led by Ronella Bacchus, the Most Valuable Player of the Final and the Highest Run Scorer, waltzed their way to the championship trophy in the final of the Bartica Easter Regatta Female Cricket competition, which ended on Wednesday at the Bartica Community Centre Ground.

Playing for the first time as a unit, Bydarabo Uprising defeated Kartabo Power Rangers Sports Club to take away the spoils in the seven-a-side/5-overs competition. This has been the second year that Kartabo Power Rangers have ended second best.
Lera Carter, Captain of the winning team, which received a trophy and cash incentives, said she was very proud of her charges’ performances, which propelled them to the title in their debut tournament.
The other members of her winning unit are Alexis Sutton, Keisha Seenarine, Ronella Bacchus, Kristal Sutton, Maxidella Timberman and Teisha Kenswil.
In the male segment, Agatash, led by MVP of the Final, Andrew Simmons, who smashed 27, and Kurt Welcome who lashed 14, guided their team to a commanding 48-1 off their three overs; the quota of overs being reduced due to fading light.

A&L Mining, needing to score 49 to win, were restricted to 34-4 off their 3 overs; Navindra ‘Kero’ Conhaya leading with 19 and Earl Joseph with 14. The most runs in the competition were scored by A&L Mining’s Messiah Joseph, while the trophy for the most wickets was presented to Joseph’s teammate Wazid Husman.
Trophies were presented to the top two teams in both the male and female competitions. The top individual players also landed trophies. The sports programme has been organised by Michael Dos Santos.
