On the heels of a dominant first round in the competition, Guyana’s boxing team at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games, comprising Desmond Amsterdam, Colin Lewis and Terron Wintz, were all unable to advance to the next stage after competing in their respective weight class quarterfinals on Tuesday.
Amsterdam hit the ring first, taking on Venezuela’s Diego Pereyra in the men’s 80kg class, where the latter won the Judges’ vote 4-1.
The scores went 30-27, 28-29, 29-28, 30-27, and 29-28 in the Venezuelan’s favour to see the Amsterdam campaign at the regional showpiece end.
Colin Lewis took to the ring next, battling Suriname’s Domelzo Schet in an enthrallingly close encounter in the men’s 65kg quarterfinal. Eventually, the Surinamese pugilist would prevail 3-2.
After three rounds, the five Judges scored the bout 28-29, 27-30, 29-28, 27-30 and 29-28 in Schet’s favour.
Meanwhile, Wintz met a similar fate when he duked it out with Puerto Rico’s Angel Llanos in the men’s 70kg quarter-final.
Llanos brought up the win via the RSC (referee stopped contest) route, two minutes and 55 seconds into the first of three intended rounds.
As such, Guyana’s campaign in the boxing discipline has ended at the CAC Games.
