Guyana’s FIFA Futsal Referee Colin Abel has been appointed to officiate at the third Puerto Rico International Futsal Championship, which is currently underway from August 4 to 9, at the Dr Pedro J Roselló Convention Center in San Juan.
The Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) Refereeing Department congratulated Abel on his selection, describing the appointment as recognition of his professionalism, commitment and consistently high standard of officiating.
Abel recently officiated in the Keep Your Five Alive futsal tournament, where he continued to demonstrate his ability to manage matches at a high level.
The GFF said the international assignment also reflects the continued development of Guyanese match officials and their growing presence at regional and international competitions.
Now in its third edition, the Puerto Rico International Futsal Championship has developed into one of the Caribbean’s leading futsal tournaments. More than 300 teams from across the region are expected to participate in boys, girls, youth, and senior divisions.
The tournament will provide a competitive environment for players, coaches and officials while offering Abel another opportunity to gain valuable international experience.
The GFF Refereeing Department said assignments of this nature help to strengthen the reputation of Guyanese officials within the Confederation and beyond.
It wished Abel success as he represents Guyana during the six-day championship.
