Camp Street 3-vehicle smash-up leaves motorcyclist dead

Dead: Gladwin Dorway

A vehicular accident involving a motorcar and two motorcycles has resulted in the death of 39-year-old Gladwin Dorway of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident occurred at about 03:05h at the intersection of Camp and New Market Streets, Georgetown.
Police stated that a motorcar, PNN 832, driven by a 28-year-old female of South Cummingsburg, Georgetown, was proceeding along New Market Street, Georgetown, and upon approaching Camp Street, the driver failed to adhere to a stop sign and, as such, collided with motorcycle CP 7083, driven by a 27-year-old male of Sparendaam, ECD. As a result of the impact, Dorway, who was proceeding along Camp Street on his motorcycle, CS 441, collided with the right front side of the motorcar. Both motorcyclists were reportedly flung onto the roadway, where they sustained injuries to their bodies. They were picked up and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where Dorway was pronounced dead. The other motorcyclist remains a patient at the same medical facility receiving treatment. At the time of the accident, the driver of the motorcar was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, with readings of 0.25 micrograms and 0.21 micrograms. In Guyana, the legal alcohol limit for drivers is set at 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, or a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) of 80 milligrams per 100 millilitres of blood. This is roughly equivalent to consuming about two beers. The driver of the motorcar is presently in police custody assisting with investigations.
