Canada-based Guyanese umpire, Budhoo delighted to officiate with Bucknor, Bowden

…at IMC Over-60 World Cup

Veteran cricket umpire Suresh Budhoo says that he is delighted to umpire with retired, iconic umpires Steve Bucknor and Billy Bowden at the upcoming International Masters Cricket (IMC) 45-over, Over-60 World Cup.
The 14-nation tournament is slated to bowl off on Sunday in Mississauga, at various venues.
Budhoo, who officiated the IMC Over-40 World Cup in 2024 in South Africa and other tournaments in Sri Lanka and Australia, stated that it will be a joy to rub shoulders with the Jamaican Bucknor and New Zealander Bowden.
“I [am] delighted to be on the panel to call play at this mega cricket tournament; we all know that both of these guys had done wonderful jobs while on international duties during their illustrious umpiring careers, so I am excited to go out there and place the bails on Sunday,” the Canada-based Guyanese mentioned.
Bucknor brings a wealth of experience with 130 Tests and 208 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) under his belt, while Bowden has officiated 104 Tests, 259 ODIs, and 32 T20s.
On Sunday, seven matches will be played simultaneously before the top two teams reach up for the final on August 23, at Dansville Ground in Mississauga.
Budhoo also stated that, when these two legends are here to do what they love, it gives him and the tournament that extra energy.
“I must congratulate all the other umpires for this global tournament; you have two umpires coming out to be part of this tournament… it’s truly amazing, and I am really glad that I would be an official for this assignment. I did matches with Bowden, and it was a special feeling, so I am really looking forward to these games,” the 61-year-old Budhoo related.
According to Budhoo, a total of 17 umpires from seven different countries have been selected to umpire at the tournament.
The other umpires are Azad Hosein, Sush Mahalanobis, Victor Sebastian, Rohan Shah, Kantharatnam Shantikumar, Danny Singh, Rohan Weatherspoon, Evan Watkin, Darryl O’Sullivan, Peter Tate, Bob Szpadt, Martin Wale, and Saravanakumar Venkatesan.
The 14 participating teams are Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, India, Scotland, West Indies, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Wales and an Emerging World XI.
