Canadian air cargo service to begin weekly service to Guyana this week

Cargojet Airways Ltd is set to begin operations in Guyana on Friday, introducing a weekly non-scheduled air cargo service under a partnership with DHL Express USA.
The development follows earlier discussions between President Dr Irfaan Ali and Cargojet executives in Canada. Public Utilities and Aviation Minister Deodat Indar met with representatives of DHL, which has contracted Cargojet for the service.
The airline will operate a weekly cargo route on the Miami (MIA), Caracas (CCS), Georgetown (GEO), Medellin (Colombia), and the Miami corridor. The service is intended to support DHL Express operations in the region.
Minister Indar congratulated DHL officials, including Executive Director Maurice John and DHL Aviation America’s Director of Business Development and ACS Strategy, Xavier Cerruto, on the commencement of the new service.
According to the Ministry, the entry of Cargojet Airways reflects growing demand in Guyana’s air cargo sector, which has expanded significantly in recent years. Air cargo volumes increased from 7.6 million kilograms in 2020 to 14.4 million kilograms in 2025, an increase of 88.5 per cent.
Officials attribute the growth to increased imports of industrial equipment and supplies linked to the oil and gas sector, as well as rising e-commerce activity and broader trade expansion.
The upward trend has continued into 2026, with cargo volumes reportedly increasing by a further 21 per cent year-to-date.
Since 2020, international cargo carriers, including LATAM Cargo and Avianca Cargo, have expanded operations in Guyana, contributing to increased capacity and improved regional connectivity.
