A 34-year-old cane cutter was killed just before midnight on Wednesday after he was struck by a speeding car on the Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara Public Road.
The dead man has been identified as Winston Domingo of Water Pump Street, Anna Catherina. According to reports, the accident occurred sometime around
23:55h.
Guyana Times understands that the father of one had gone to the shop to make a purchase and was returning home when the accident occurred.
Domingo was on a bicycle proceeding West in the direction of motor car PVV 4420 along the southern driveway of the road, reportedly at a very fast rate.
It was reported that the front left side of the vehicle collided with the rear of the victim’s bicycle. As a result of the impact, the cyclist fell onto the car’s windshield then onto the roadway while the bicycle broke into two parts.
The victim was rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital in an unconscious state and was pronounced dead on arrival. His body is presently at the Ezekiel’s Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Domingo, who is originally from Aishalton, Rupununi, leaves to mourn his wife and three-year-old child.
Meanwhile, a breathalyser test was administered to the driver of the car involved in the accident but no alcohol was found in his breath. Nevertheless, the 20-year-old driver of Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo remains in custody and is expected to be charged.
