Canje Titans takes home Appiah Challenge Championship

BCB Grassroot tournaments 2021…

The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) continues to push ahead with its packed 2021 Cricket Season with the hosting of another two grassroot tournaments. The Lillian Nandu Memorial Challenge Cup was played at the historic Port Mourant Ground while the Mukesh Appiah Grassroot Cup was hosted at the Kendall’s Union N0.19 Ground.
With the successful hosting of the two tournaments, the BCB has now successfully completed nine of the ten grassroot tournaments, it had announced one month ago. The objectives of the tournaments are to bring back the passion for the game after an absence of over a year, to identify new talents and to allow smaller clubs an opportunity to win a BCB cricket title.

Over at the No.19 Kendall’s Union Ground, Canje Titans created history by winning their first ever BCB title by defeating Kendall’s Union Sports Star by 20 runs in the Mukesh Appiah Grassroot Challenge Cup.
In the opening game, Canje Titans defeated Kendall’s Union C.C while Kendall’s Sports Star got pass No1 Road CC. Canje Titans batted first in the finals and amassed 123 for 7 from fifteen overs. Clifton Lindee top scored with 53 and received support from Imran Harrianadass 26. S. Baker 2 for 14 and F. Cuttie 2 for 17 was main bowlers for the Kendalls Union Sports Club.
Needing to score 124 from 15 overs to win their first ever BCB title Kendall’s Union team was dismissed for 103 all out in 14.2 overs as Imran Hoosein 2 for 30, Cleshawn Cort 2 for 25 and M. Malcolm 3 for 19 bowled well for Canje Titans. Only S. Baker 17, E. Garnett 26 and R. Baker 11 offered any resistance to the visitors, who celebrated their first ever BCB title in fine style.
BCB Secretary Angela Haniff expressed gratitude to Arjune Nandu and Mukesh Appiah for their support. She stated that the one remaining tournament would be played off this weekend at the Bush Lot Village ground. Bush Lot United , Bush Lot Rising Star, Achievers and Dedward CC would clash for the Troy Halley Challenge Cup.
