CANU unearths gun, ammo during drug raid

Ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) found a gun along with ammunition at a house in La Penitence, Georgetown on Wednesday during a drug raid.

It was reported that the CANU officers conducted an intelligence-led operation at Independence Boulevard, La Penitence, which resulted in the discovery of one 9mm Glock 17 pistol with a magazine containing four 9mm rounds.
Following the discovery, one male suspect, David Lynch, aka “Convict”, 44, was arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters with the firearm and ammunition.
Investigations are ongoing.
Only a few weeks ago, CANU conducted several operations in Georgetown during which two illegal firearms and ammunition were discovered. The exercise was conducted by officers from the Unit’s Special Operations team.
Of the two handguns seized, one was a Taurus 9mm pistol along with a 10-round magazine and the other was a .38 Special Revolver.
According to CANU, these operations are part of its collaboration with the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to keep communities safe as part of the National Safe Country Strategy.
