Capoey man succumbs to stab wounds

– teenager charged

Almost one week after being injured during an altercation with a teenager at Lake Capoey Mission, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), a father of nine succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention at the Suddie Public Hospital.
Dead is 52-year old Tedd De Younge of Capoey Village, Region Two. The now dead man was on life support for almost two days after he sustained injuries during an altercation with his 15-year-old nephew.
It was reported that De Younge and the teenager were involved in an argument on June 12, during which the young man collected a glass bottled and dealt him several blow to the head before escaping. Tedd De Younge, the deceased
The injured man was found in a pool of blood along a dam in the Amerindian reservation.
The young man was later apprehended and handed over to the Police while the injured man was rushed to the Suddie Hospital where he was admitted a patient. While there, doctors recommended that the patient be transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, but due to his condition, it was impossible for him to be transferred.
Earlan De Younge, a son of the dead man told Guyana Times that his father met a horrific death and is calling on the Police to thoroughly investigate the incident. The distressed son related that his father was a quiet man and never troubled anyone in the community.
However, the teenager who committed the act was remanded to the juvenile holding centre at Sophia, Greater Georgetown following his court appearance before Magistrate Sunil Scarce on June 16. He was charged with attempted murder.
Now that the man is dead, the charge is expected to be reread to the suspect in the new week. He will now be charged with the capital offence of murder.
While at the court on Thursday, the teenager’s mother told the court that her son lives with his stepfather and rears poultry as a business. She also informed the court that he is a school dropout and is the second of three children.
Meanwhile, Police Prosecutor Haimraj Ramsewack told the court that on the day in question at about 23:00h, the teenager was at Capoey Mission consuming alcohol with some friends when he was later joined by the victim, who is his uncle.
After a few drinks, they left and were heading home when it is alleged that the teenager dealt several lashes to the victim’s head with a rum bottle. Residents claimed that they heard screams coming from the area and upon enquiring, they saw the man lying on the dam.
The teenager will make his next court appearance on July 28.
