A 23-year-old labourer is now in Police custody after ranks from Regional Division Five unearthed over 52 kilograms of cannabis in a house for which he was the ‘caretaker.’
Reports are that acting on information received, the Police ranks went to the left bank of the Abary River (about 40 miles from the public road) at about 12:00h on Saturday.

On arrival at the area, the ranks saw a two-storey wooden and concrete house on a plot of land where the 23-year-old labourer from Tempie Village, West Coast Berbice was seen.
A search was conducted on the house and four salt bags were found in a room in the lower flat. The bags were checked and they contained 31 wrapped parcels, all containing leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The labourer was told of the offence, and in response told Police that the house belongs to someone he only knows by the named “Jah Jah” and that he was just the caretaker.
He was taken to the Weldaad Police Station, where the suspected cannabis was weighed and it amounted to 52,617 grams.
Police are now searching for the owner of the house. (G2)
