As Guyana gears up to celebrate its 60th independence anniversary on May 26, the energy is already electrifying, and party lovers from across the globe are counting down the days.
From Wednesday, May 20, 2026, Guyana will come alive with pulsating music, vibrant culture, nonstop partying, and unforgettable vibes.
The stage is set for a packed seven days with massive events, premium fetes, colourful costumes, and pure Caribbean excitement as locals and visitors unite for one epic celebration.
The highly anticipated Guyana Carnival officially ignites with “Touch Down” – the ultimate kick-off experience powered by Hits and Jams Entertainment on May 20.
Whether you are coming to lime, fete, wine, or simply soak in the carnival vibes, the bacchanal begins with “Touch Down” at the Kingston Beachfront, featuring one of the hottest Soca artistes out of Trinidad and Tobago, Voice; Guyana’s Soca Monarch, Adrian Dutchin; and others.
Then the excitement moves to Thursday, May 21, at the Marriott Beachfront for El Dorado “Stinging Nettles”, which has become a household brand here in Guyana and will feature world-renowned Soca groovy artiste Kes the Band.
Also performing are Kevin Little and Fame Band, along with others who are known to bring the vibes. The event will be a rum-inclusive party with free rum for patrons throughout the night, compliments of El Dorado.
On Friday evening, the bacchanal moves to the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD) for “Extra Stink and Dutty” with Soca King Machel Montano headlining the event.
It is expected to be one of the biggest j’ouverts and will start at 23:59h and go all the way to sunrise the following Saturday morning. For this event, there will be two sections – wet and dry – to cater to all those who may want to go but remain dry during the session. Again, more artists are slated to perform at “Stink and Dutty”, but the headlining act will come on stage at about 03:00h on Saturday morning.
After the j’ouvert on Saturday morning, the action continues when the dust settles in the evening for Magnum “Baderation”, featuring Jamaican dancehall sensation Alkaline. This is anticipated to be the biggest of the events for Guyana Carnival, as tickets for this concert have been going like hot cakes.
The Sunday before Independence, things will turn into a more sophisticated setting with Soca and Wine at the Marriott parking lot. This is dubbed one of the most fashionable events of the carnival.
Organisers are catering to the ladies who are coming out to make a statement. In case they want to set aside the heels, free pumps will be provided along with other giveaways.
On Monday, the day before Guyana’s independence celebrations, the Marriott beachfront will once again come alive with “Kabisa Cool Out” and will feature Valiant and also Master T from Barbados.
This event is planned for those workaholics who may want to cool down after a hard day’s work and set the mood for the grand event on Tuesday.
On Independence Day, the streets of Georgetown will explode with a kaleidoscope of colours, vibrant costumes, sweet Soca music, and party vibes. The parade is expected to kick off from Main Street in the vicinity of the Cenotaph and move to the seawall bandstand, then into Camp Street and into Carifesta Avenue before making its way back to the starting point for a grand concert.
And to pull the curtains on the seven days of frolicking, Nadia Batson will take centre stage at the Republic Band, Pan and Soca happening on May 27 at Marriott Beachfront.
Director of Hits and Jams Entertainment, Kerwin Bollers, in an interview with the Guyana Times, explained that a lot of events have been planned and will cater to different audiences ranging from Soca to dancehall to a touch of sophistication.
He explained that apart from the parties and concerts, there will be a welcoming reception for persons travelling into Guyana on May 20 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri.
“It’s basically a welcome event for patrons and visitors coming into Guyana. To get a feel of the carnival… there are going to be models, some cultural displays, steel pan music, and other exciting stuff, including lots of giveaways of merchandise and tickets.”
He added that a lot of people are expected in Guyana for Guyana’s independence based on online ticket sales. “We are expecting a lot of foreigners coming to Guyana for the first time. We expect a lot of persons from the diaspora who will be visiting, and we also expect a huge turnout from the local supporters,” Bollers added.
With all the visitors expected and all parties at various locations, Hits and Jams Entertainment is not playing jokes with security, and as such, patrons will be subjected to body searches and other measures to ensure everyone is safe during the events.
“Security is always paramount for us. Listen, you know, especially when it comes to having visitors, you want persons to have a great experience. So, we are working with the Guyana Police Force on a very, very strict policy. There will be absolutely no bottles at the events. Also, we’re going to have a lot of security detailing happening there in terms of body searches and body scans, but you know, security is also very much based on the responsibility of the patrons. So, we want to encourage patrons to be responsible, come out, and have clean fun. Yes, we could have all these systems in place, but again, it still comes down to the patrons.”
With respect to the parade on Independence Day, Bollers confirmed that several bands are involved, including Decoded, Genesis, and even Hits and Jams, in addition to the overseas bands.
“We’re looking forward to having some really great displays of costumes. Some will be full costumes, and some will be semi-costumes. We are asking persons to get out there by 12:00h so they can view the costumes that will be revelling along the parade route.”
This year, no one is getting left behind, as patrons are flocking to the various ticketing locations to purchase their tickets early.
“What we’re happy about this year is that we’ve seen persons buying tickets very early. Most times we wait until the last minute, but I can say, really, over the last month, we’ve been seeing a steady increase every single day of persons coming out to buy tickets.”
Some of the ticketing locations are Exclusive Styles, That Look Boutique, White Castle Fish Shop, the People Pawn Shop in Berbice, and in Linden at the Boom FM office. Tickets are available in various categories – general, VIP, elevated spaces, and VVIP.
