The entity “Caribbean Voice”, in collaboration with the Guyana Pandits’ Council, has hosted a workshop to enlighten youths on self-esteem and alcohol and substance abuse.
The workshop was conducted at the late Pandit Gowkarran Sharma’s Bhavan building, located behind the Diamond & Grove Vishnu Mandir on the East Bank of Demerara.
The workshop saw the attendance of 31 participants ranging in age from six years to 56 years.
National Youth Coordinator Keshni Chandanie Rooplall graced the event with a presentation on self-esteem. Sub-group member and Trainer Ibi-Mina Edwards, of East Bank Demerara, highlighted the meaning of “empathy”, and why persons should all practise emphatic communication.
Meena Baljit made a submission on substance abuse based on scientific research conducted by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, U.S.A; while Surendra Bipiah did an impactful overview on alcohol abuse. Moreover, Regional Coordinator for the East Bank of Demerara, Dan Ali, engaged the audience on the fundamental concepts and definitions of drug abuse.
The Caribbean Voice is a voluntary non-governmental organization (NGO) that focuses on issues such as anti-violence and suicide prevention in the Caribbean and its diaspora.
