Home News CDC, GBTI appeal to public to donate for The Bahamas
– following devastating effects of Hurricane Dorian
In light of the devastating effects that Hurricane Dorian left in The Bahamas after taking the lives of scores of persons and destroying numerous homes there, the Guyana Civil Defence Commission (CDC) in collaboration with Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) is appealing to the public to assist in donating funds to aid citizens of that country.
Persons desirous of contributing financial donations are asked to make those contributions to an account set up at GBTI under the account name: GBTI Hurricane Relief Fund-Bahamas with the account number 011802963011.
Even as the Government and people of The Bahamas are left to pick up the pieces following Hurricane Dorian’s arrival and departure, another storm is expected to hit that island soon.
Tropical Depression Nine formed near The Bahamas on Friday and is forecast to become a tropical storm today, the National Hurricane Center said.
As such, The Bahamas Government has issued a tropical storm warning for its northwestern islands — which is the same area decimated by Hurricane Dorian earlier this month.
The storm was about 240 miles east-southeast of Freeport, Grand Bahama Island, and about 140 miles east-southeast of Great Abaco Island, the hurricane center said. Tropical Depression Nine has maximum sustained winds of 30 mph and is moving northwest at 8 mph.
