Charges withdrawn against 3 suspects in newspaper vendor’s murder

– new charges instituted against others

Murder charges filed against three men who were implicated in the murder of newspaper vendor Sham Munilall, who was shot and killed during a robbery at his Queenstown, Essequibo Coast home, have been withdrawn by the state prosecutor.

Sham Munilall, also known as “Chunnilall” and “Paperman”

Initially Carlton Carter, Carl Michael Carter, Delhoya McKenzie, Norlando Brown, and John Li were charged for the crime. As they made another court appearance on Tuesday before Magistrate Esther Sam at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court, they were informed that the old charges would be withdrawn and new charges would be instituted.
However, the new charges were read only to Brown, Li, and a new accused, Pamela Joseph. The charges against Carlton Carter, Carl Michael Carter and Delhoya McKenzie were dropped.
48-year-old newspaper vendor Sham Munilall, also called “Chunnilall” and “Paperman,” was killed during the course or furtherance of a robbery.
Reports are that the man was in front of his yard having a barbeque with his family when three men – one armed with a handgun and another with a cutlass – scaled the fence to gain entry to his residence.
The armed men attacked Munilall’s wife Rita, who was at the front door of the house. Upon seeing this, Munilall confronted the perpetrators, but the gunman opened fire on him, shooting him four times about his body.
The trio then made their escape, while the injured man was rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The three accused are expected to make another court appearance on July 10, 2020.
