Home News Charlestown man remanded for armed robbery
James Murphy, 22, of Lot 17 Broad Street, Charlestown, Georgetown, was on Friday remanded to prison by Magistrate Leron Daly after he was slapped with a robbery under arms charge.
Murphy denied the charge which stated that on August 15, 2018, while he was in the company of others and armed with a gun, he robbed Mark Griffith of one gold band and $165,000; a total value of $350,000.
However, in a strange twist, Griffith refused to give evidence into the matter and told the court that he and Murphy are relatives and have decided to settle the matter. The Magistrate did not dismiss the charge but rather remanded Murphy to prison until a full settlement is paid over to Griffith.
The matter will continue on August 24.
