Chase blow out Santa Rosa en route to Massy title

It was business as usual for Chase’s Academic Foundation on Saturday night, steamrolling rivals Santa Rosa Secondary at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Ground, Carifesta Avenue, to add another Massy Distribution championship title to their trophy case.
With two of the tournament’s unbeaten teams meeting in the grand finale, fans probably did not get the final contest they had expected as the Region One outfit proved to be no match for the Parade Street regional champions.

Shaquan David captured both the MVP and highest goal scorer awards

It could be considered as a case of ‘revenge is best served cold’ as Chase finally got the one-up on their rivals after they were bested by the same opposition the last time they met in the tournament’s final back in 2023.
Shaquan David was the marksman to watch on the night, setting the tempo for Chase’s attack from the midfield, as he rose to the occasion in his first full tournament as Team Captain.
David began his assault early, pulling off a sprint in the very first minute of the game to pierce the Santa Rosa defence. Not positioned well enough to pull off the shot himself, David passed the ball off to Damani Hardy, who made no mistake with the finish for Chase’s first goal in the second minute.

The Captain was duly rewarded himself 12 minutes later, when a Chase player was fouled in the box by the Santa Rosa goalkeeper, resulting in a penalty opportunity. David tucked the ball into the corner of the net for Chase’s second strike in the 14th minute. Two minutes later, the script was almost identical, another foul, another penalty, and another Shaquan David strike to put Chase 3-0 up by the 16th.
Santa Rosa’s defence eventually got into their rhythm, holding off Chase’s advances for the remainder of the half, however, not before David took another shot at the net, connecting a shot from near the 30-yard area to give Chase a 4-0 lead at the half.
In the second segment, the 2025 runners-up wasted little time in extending their tally, as Onesi Dunn’s shot found the back of the net in the 48th minute. After a slew of missed chances, Mark Glasgow finally put the cherry on top for Chase, sending the ball into the net with a right-footed shot in the 77th minute, to seal their 6-0 triumph.
Earlier, the tournament’s third-place playoff took the long road as neither Charlestown Secondary nor West Ruimveldt secondary could find the back of the net in regulation and extra time. As such, the contest went down to kicks from the penalty spot where West Ruimveldt were able to hold their nerve for a 4-2 win.
The tournament’s final saw attendance from several Government Ministers in Steven Jacobs (Sport Ministry); Collin Croal (Housing and Water Ministry) and Sarah Browne-Shadeek (Amerindian Affairs Ministry).

During the presentation ceremony, Jacobs, the Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, not only expressed the Ministry’s commitment to grassroots development and facilitating tournaments but also had words of high praise for the tournament’s title sponsors and coordinators Petra Organisation.
In the individual awards, Chase’s Flavio LaRose pocketed another best goalkeeper award while David took home the Most Goals and Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards after amassing a whopping 17 goals in the competition.
Chase’s Academic Foundation will be rewarded with a $300,000 grand prize, to be allocated in kind to a school project of their choice. Meanwhile, Santa Rosa and West Ruimveldt will receive $200,000 and $100,000 for the same purpose.
The Massy Distribution tournament was sponsored under a complement of brands, including Milo, Club Social, Orchard, Ocean Spray Creamery, and Tang.
