The place to be on Saturday, July 21 is the Ministry of Education Ground, Carifesta Avenue, as the finale of the ExxonMobil/Petra Under-14 football league is sure to be a thriller.
Over the past month, students from all across the coast of Guyana gathered to showcase their footballing talents and now they’re almost at the end of a splendid competition.
After the conclusion of Tuesday’s semi-final action, it was guaranteed that the final would be even better.
In the female semis showcasing South Ruimveldt Secondary and East Ruimveldt Secondary, a series of unfortunate events and indiscipline guided the course of the

match-up.
Owing to late arrivals, the match-up was delayed for more than an hour and as such, the players seemed to have lost their motivation. An ecstatic East Ruimveldt were up 1-0 thanks to a successful penalty.
But South Ruimveldt soon got their cut of the pie with a penalty of their own resulting from a “hands” foul inside the box. The rest of the half elapsed quietly. Misunderstandings in the East Ruimveldt camp seem to shift their momentum and focus and South took full advantage.
Exhibiting some top-class dribbling and passes, South secured eight more goals in quick succession, sealing their spot as one of, if not the best in the competition.
While the girls carried on, the two male teams warmed up on the other half of the field and as such, their adrenaline was at the highest for their match-up.
The young men of Chase Academy and Buxton Youth Developers were running like horses from the get-go, but it was the former who secured the first goal.
However, Buxton soon equalised with a beauty of their own. The equaliser only

proved to add more action to the already scintillating match-up. Chase Academy secured another slick goal, which put them in the driver’s seat. Although Buxton had many chances at connecting with the net, none were followed through giving Chase the advantage. The boys from Chase added another goal to their tally in the second half to book their spot in Saturday’s final.
On the male side, Chase’s Academy will face off with North Ruimveldt Multilateral while Charlestown Secondary will battle with South Ruimveldt Secondary in the girls’ section.
