Child Care and Protection Officers, CID Rank among 5 injured in Port Kaituma accident

Two Child Care and Protection Officers along with a Woman Constable attached to the Criminal Investigations Department are among five persons injured in an accident that occurred on the Ten Miles Access Road, Port Kaituma, Region One (Barima – Waini).

The accident occurred just about 20:30h on Wednesday.

Police say 28-year-old Daniel Da Silva of Citrus Grove, Port Kaituma was driving motorcar PRR 5084 heading north along the Ten Miles Access Road at a fast rate. While navigating a left turn, the man hit a slush puddle resulting in him losing control of the vehicle.

The car collided with an object and flipped on its side.

At the time of the accident, Da Silva had 4 passengers and they all sustained injuries about their bodies.

They have been identified as 9-year-old Bibi Samad who is a Child Care Protection Officer of Port Kaituma; 29-year-old Marlene Williams who is also a Child Care Protection Officer of Port Kaituma; 28-year-old Keisha Newtown who is a policewoman of Port Kaituma; and an 18-year-old identified as Samya Goodman of Port Kaituma.

They were picked up by public-spirited citizens and rushed to the Port Kaituma District Hospital, where they were seen and examined by Doctor on duty. Samad and Newton were admitted to the hospital after they complained about pains in their hips and arm.

The others were treated and sent away. The investigation continues.
