Child struck by speeding car

A West Bank Demerara (WBD) boy was rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH) Sunday morning after he was struck by a speeding car at the corner of Long Pond and Sisters Village Public Road, WBD. Information reaching this publication indicated that the accident occurred at about 09:00h after the lad’s mother had sent him on an errand. Guyana Times understands that his nine-year-old sister witnessed the ordeal.

According to information, the child, Brandon [only name given], was up to Sunday evening receiving oxygen while being treated for his injuries. A source close to the investigation disclosed that the child was struck by a Toyota Allion car.
This newspaper was informed that the driver of the vehicle, PTT 391, reportedly told investigators that he did not realise he had struck the child. However, he was later taken into custody at the Wales Police Station.
Last May another boy, Davin Sealey, 10, was killed one fateful night after a Police Constable, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, slammed his vehicle into a parked car and then collided with the boy as he was riding along the same Sisters Village Public Road. Reports had indicated that his mother had sent him to collect money from his father.

Meanwhile, Traffic Chief Dion Moore had disclosed late last month that road fatalities increased by some 21 per cent. The Traffic Chief also revealed that the total fatal accidents were up to 99 incidents, where 109 persons have lost their lives for the year thus far.
