China donates relief supplies to support MV Barima response

China has donated a first batch of relief supplies to assist Guyana’s response efforts following the recent MV Barima tragedy.
The donation was officially handed over on Tuesday during a ceremony attended by China’s Ambassador to Guyana, Yang Yang.
Also present were Counsellor Li Hanqing of the Chinese Embassy, representatives of Chinese enterprises operating in Guyana and Deputy Director General of the Guyana Civil Defence Commission, Mark Thomas.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Yang expressed condolences over the loss of lives in the MV Barima tragedy and extended sympathies to the families of the victims.

She said China and Guyana share a strong friendship and close partnership, adding that the Chinese people stand with the people of Guyana during this difficult period.
Ambassador Yang noted that the supplies handed over are the first batch of assistance collected by Chinese enterprises and members of the Chinese community in Guyana. She added that additional relief items are expected to be delivered in the near future.
Representatives of the Guyana Civil Defence Commission thanked the Chinese Government and its partners for the donation, stating that the supplies will support ongoing relief efforts related to the maritime tragedy.
They also said the contribution reflects the longstanding friendship between the people of Guyana and China.
