Chinese couple beaten after accusing men of shoplifting

Police are on the hunt for two men who reportedly assaulted two Chinese nationals at Amelia’s Ward, Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Upper Berbice) on Wednesday.
Police have said that on the day in question, at about 19:30h, two men entered a supermarket owned by the Chinese couple and pretended that they were purchasing items. After the two men had spent some time without showing up at the counter, the Chinese nationals accused them of attempting to shoplift.
This led to a heated argument, which quickly escalated into a scuffle between the men and the Chinese nationals, during which one of the men armed himself with an iron pipe and death the Chinese nationals several blows about their bodies.
After beating the Chinese nationals with the pipe, this man reportedly jumped on a motorcycle and made good his escape, while the other man escaped on foot.
The Police were summoned, and an investigation has been launched.
The injured couple were taken to the Linden Hospital Complex, where they were admitted as patients. Their condition is listed as serious but stable. The police are yet to make an arrest.
