Kaneville family terrorised, robbed during home invasion

A family of Kaneville, East Bank Demerara (EBD) has reportedly been robbed by five armed men during a home invasion that occurred at about 02:30h on Thursday.
Based on reports received, a 52-year-old driver and his family had retired to bed at about 21:00h on Wednesday, but were awakened by repeatedly loud banging on the western door of their house at about 02:30h on Thursday.
When the man went to investigate, he was confronted by five men in the living room area of his home. Two of the men were armed with cutlasses, and one was armed with a handgun. The perpetrators had reportedly forced their way into the house by breaking the door to gain entry.
One of the bandits dealt the man a chop to his head even as they demanded cash and other valuables. Fearful for his life, the man handed over $220,000 in cash.
The bandits further ransacked the home, during which they confiscated one 43-inch Samsung television set, six birds, three handbags, three silver chains, three silver rings and two mobile phones.
Not satisfied with their booty, the armed men demanded more cash, but the victim reportedly told them that he did not have any more at home.
In retaliation, the bandits beat the man about his body with the cutlasses, and also threatened to shoot him.
They eventually left after the victim insisted that he did not have any more money.
The Police were contacted, and the injured man was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he was treated and sent away.
The Police are investigating the robbery, but no one has as yet been arrested.
