A 36-year-old Police Inspector has been placed under close arrest as police investigate the alleged assault of his 14-year-old son at La Grange, West Bank Demerara (WBD).

According to police, the teenager was allegedly assaulted by his father, who is attached to the Police Force, during separate incidents in October.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the Inspector allegedly threw a hammer at the teenager after he reportedly misplaced a key. The hammer allegedly struck the boy on his left ankle, causing injuries.
Police said that on Wednesday at about 07:30h, the Inspector allegedly became angry after the teenager failed to complete his household chores.
The teenager was reportedly locked inside a bedroom, where his father allegedly beat him about his body with an electrical extension cord, resulting in further injuries.
The matter was subsequently reported to the Childcare and Protection Agency, which launched an investigation.
Police said that the teenager was interviewed by the relevant authorities before being taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he was examined by a doctor.
The Police Inspector was placed under close arrest on Wednesday and remains in custody pending the outcome of the investigation.
Investigations are continuing.
