Chinese enterprises make 2nd donation to support MV Barima relief efforts

The Association of Chinese Enterprises in Guyana (ACEG) has made an additional donation to the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) to support the ongoing response and relief efforts following the MV Barima maritime tragedy. The donation was handed over on Friday by ACEG General Secretary (GS) Jason Wang and received by CDC Director General Colonel Nazrul Hussain during a brief ceremony. Chinese Embassy Counsellor Li also attended the event. According to ACEG, the contribution was made through the collective support of its member companies and reflects the organisation’s continued commitment to assisting Guyana during the national response to the tragedy. The association acknowledged the contributions of Hong Da Lian Shao Guyana Construction Inc, PowerChina International Group Ltd, Xinhai International (South America) Inc, Ping An Inc, CNQC Guyana, LongReach Investments & Construction Inc., China Auto Sales, One Tree International Inc, Guyana Green Farm Inc and Bosai Minerals Guyana. In a statement, ACEG extended condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in the disaster and expressed appreciation to emergeancy responders, recovery teams, Government agencies and others involved in the ongoing operations.

Friday’s donation follows an initial contribution made earlier this week by the Chinese Government, Chinese enterprises and members of the Chinese community in Guyana. During a handover ceremony on Tuesday, China’s Ambassador to Guyana, Yang Yang, said the donation represented the first batch of relief supplies collected to assist Guyana’s response efforts. The Ambassador expressed condolences to the families of the victims and said China stands in solidarity with Guyana during the difficult period. She also indicated that additional relief supplies were expected to be delivered. Representatives of the CDC had welcomed the initial donation, noting that the supplies would assist ongoing relief efforts and describing the contribution as another demonstration of the longstanding friendship between Guyana and China.
