PAC rangers engage youths in nature camp to promote conservation

Rangers from the Protected Areas Commission (PAC) recently participated in a nature camp organised by youths in Moco Moco Village, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), in an effort to strengthen environmental awareness and conservation. According to a post on the commission’s social media page, rangers attached to the Kanuku Mountains Protected Area (KMPA) joined the camp, where they engaged participants through knowledge-sharing and discussions on the importance of protecting the area’s biodiversity. The PAC said the initiative provided an opportunity for its rangers to build relationships with young people who will play an important role in safeguarding the environment in the future.

The commission noted that, apart from routine monitoring activities, participating in community-led initiatives allows rangers to exchange experiences with youths while also learning from their perspectives on environmental stewardship. It added that such engagements help foster a shared sense of responsibility and pride in protecting the rich biodiversity of the Kanuku Mountains Protected Area. The PAC also thanked the residents of Moco Moco Village for organising the nature camp and including the commission in the activity. The commission expressed its commitment to continuing similar collaborations with communities to support the long-term conservation of Guyana’s protected areas.
