From ‘cracking’ jokes backstage to being the most recognised Guyanese comedian, not only in Guyana but regionally, Kirk “Chow Pow” Jardine also has a special touch of creating and producing shows which not only wow his audiences but create an atmosphere which is safe, secure and conducive to wholesome entertainment.
One such signature event is the Chow Pow Comedy Jam.
The Comedy Jam first came to stage at the Lichas Hall in Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) to a sold out audience. It was highlighted that there is a need for the mining town of Linden to have a bigger theatre to host such events.
The show then moved on to find a home at the Garage Bar and Grill on Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt Gardens, and patrons loved the move.
The move to the Garage Bar was to get rid of the dress code, which is always in effect at the National Culture Centre; this allows persons to freely move around the venue, enjoying their favourite beverages and the scrumptious BBQ that is the signature of the Garage.
Fans loved the move, as they flocked the venue and the shows never disappoint.
The acts are carefully selected, mixing the seasoned comedians with the best of the newcomers and adding a twist of sort to create a different look than the “other” comedy shows.
At one show, the special feature was Mr Guyana, Kerwyn Clark, being serenated by Lisa Punch while he displayed his magnificent physique in an amazing pose routine, much to the delight of the women folk present.
But for some time now, for reasons beyond Jardine’s control, there was no Comedy Jam and fans were left to wait to enjoy stand-up comedy.
Well, that will all change on October 27, when Chow Pow’s Comedy Jam returns to its home at the Garage.
It is the right time to have a comedy show, says Jardine. “There are so many things to have a laugh about; some good, some bad and we know that the people are just waiting to hear what we the comedians have to say and how we are going to say it”.
“However, the show will not allow profanity, yes no “Crawfording” allowed but for sure he is not going to be left out and how about the “Fari” that stole the pig… hahahah,” the producer added.
Meanwhile, the cast in now being finalised and their names will be released shortly but what we Jardine can disclose is that there will be a special segment dedicated to women; it will include the reigning calypso queen Onika Joseph, actress Sheron Cadogan-Taylor and Facebook media sensation “Melly Mel”.
Early-bird tickets will go on sale on Monday at the Garage and will cost $1000. Is there going to be an overseas act? Your guess is as good as mine. Chow Pow’s Comedy Jam, “yuh gon laff til yuh belly hut yuh”.
