Chutney Monarch on Sunday at Leonora

– 10 to compete against Willie for title

Chutney lovers on the West Side are in for a treat this Saturday evening as the final of the Chutney Monarch will be held at the Synthetic Track, Leonora, West Coast Demerara. After a well contested semi-final in Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), it is down to 10 contestants who will have a chance to dethrone reigning Chutney Monarch Vanita Willie.
Initially, 17 chutney singers were shortlisted to perform in the semis but at the end of the night, the judges were tasked with eliminating seven and those were given the nod to head into the final which is expected to be explosive.
The contests will be judged in lyrics; presentation; melody; vocals; and more importantly, crowd appeal. This year, according to feedback, the 10 contestants moving into the finals are the cream of the crop and they will undoubtedly perform to the best of their abilities to take up the crown and monetary prizes.
At the end, only one will be crowned Guyana Chutney Monarch 2018. Those into the finals and will competing against Willie are Steven Ramphal with “Mujhe Sangeet se Pyar Hai”; Sasenarine Hitnarayan with “Guyanese Larki”; Sherldon Adrian Lyken will perform “Me Na Vex Yuh Go”; Kumdeo Singh is ready to hit the stage with “Nazima”; Parsasram Singh will do his part with “Meet de Nanny”; Arijit Singh with “Wedding Story”; Bunty Singh will perform “Banwari, Poonwasie and de lokni”; Haresh Singh will hit the stage with “Chutney Raja”; Roger Hinds will try to take over with “Meh larki always fretting” and Hamesh Rhyna with “Chamkeying”.
Reigning Chutney Monarch Vanita Willie will perform “Phool Basiya and She Husband”. In addition to the chutney competition, there will be a dance competition among the best dance troupes in Guyana.
Admission to the event is free and showtime is 20:00h.
