The Central Islamic Organization of Guyana, with the assistance of several partners, has hosted medical outreaches in Port Kaituma and Mabaruma, communities of Region One (Barima-Waini), which have seen more than 2,500 persons benefiting.
The initiative was done from August 2 to August 4 at Port Kaituma, and between August 5 and 6 at Mabaruma. Services offered by the medical team included hypertension, dentistry, minor surgeries, optometry, general health care, HIV and STD testing, obstetrics and gynaecology.
Treatments were also conducted for joint pains and skin rashes, COVID-19 vaccination was administered, as were basic trauma care, preventative medicine, suicide prevention and other services.
Residents of Port Kaituma and Mabaruma were also able to obtain food hampers as well as an undisclosed number of mattress and walkers, items of clothing, vitamins, baby pampers and other necessities catering for their daily needs. Moreover, more than 200 foreign nationals were able to access Issued to Stay and extension permits by UNHCR.
The CIOG has extended its warmest and sincerest gratitude to the many partnering entities that came together to make this event a successful one. In addition, the CIOG thanked its corporate sponsors and extended its heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for their generous contributions.
The CIOG, along with its partnering entities, has deemed this humanitarian act a successful one, applauded the team work by everyone, and is looking forward to working together as a team again, to bring further assistance to the people of Guyana.
