“City Vybez” nightclub owner remanded for narco-trafficking
Popular nightclub owner Clyde Barrett was on Friday remanded to prison after appearing before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on a drug trafficking charge.
The charge alleges that Barrett had at his nightclub 19.188 kilograms of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking on July 17, 2018.
According to the Prosecution’s case, Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) ranks went to Barrett’s Sussex Street, Albouystown business place on July 17, and carried out a search which resulted in the retrieval of the cannabis hidden in a kitchen cupboard, which had to be opened using Barrett’s key.
The prosecution objected to Barrett being placed on bail.
Represented by Attorney-at-Law Mark Conway, the 40-year-old Barrett denied the charge which was read to him; and Conway, in his submission for bail, told the court that two other persons were arrested during the raid at the nightclub.
Magistrate Daly, however, upheld the prosecution’s objection and the businessman was remanded. The case will continue on August 8.
