C&L Construction Inc on board with student organised tournament …to be held on February 2

“Kings of Studies” tournament

University of Guyana student and organiser of the first small-goal tournament received support from C&L Construction Inc during the course of the week, as the company pledged its allegiance as a sponsor and has also donated trophies that will be awarded to the highest goal scorer and MVP of the “Kings of Studies” tournament to be held on February 2.
Gibbons, who has been around the football fraternity for some time, stated that the concept of the tournament was designed to foster student interaction across faculties and is therefore encouraged since the feedback he has been receiving is more than he could imagine.
The tournament will be played for one day, only providing that there is a maximum of eight registered teams; however, if there are more than 16 teams contesting, the games shall be played for two weeks. The matches will be round-robin style, followed by the knockout stage, which will be three games – two semi-finals and the final. The games will be played in two five-minute halves.
According to Gibbons, while teams will be vying for the top prize of medals a trophies, the Most Valuable Player of the tournament will receive a patriotic shoe, compliments of a local upcoming shoe company “Signature Move”. He also went on to state that he is very grateful to sport organiser Lavern Fraser for making the tournament possible, as the buzz around campus has definitely been positive, as students participating and spectators are gearing themselves up for the competition.

Some of the other entities on board with this event are the Kashif and Shanghai organisation, Signature Move, New Era Entertainment, Michael Singh, the Guyana Football Federation, and Robbie Rambarran.
